Consulting

As a consultant to non-profit organizations, the media industry, and government agencies, I direct media campaigns, research media effects, develop media resources, facilitate training sessions, moderate focus groups, and judge the excellence of new contributions to the field. The Kidvocate Group

A consultancy of Mitroff & Associates specializing in strategic development of media experiences that empower kids, tweens and teens in the digital culture by helping media creators produce quality media-based products that entertain, engage and educate.  I am a member of the educational consulting team at The Kidvocate Group.

American Greetings

Developed multimedia training materials focused on child development milestones, children's media habits, and children's media policy to provide building blocks for program and script development of new children's television series.


California Campaign for Kids' TV

Served as Director of the Center for Media Education's California Campaign for Kids' TV,
a public education initiative to raise awareness about media's impact and to promote
quality children's programming and an understanding of the Children's Television Act.


Common Sense Media

Developed and wrote Raising Media Savvy Kids, a media parent guide and toolkit.


Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation

Researched and wrote Children, Health and the Media: Report and Fact Sheet Series spotlighting critical issues
such as media and childhood obesity, kids coping with news about terrorism and everyday violence,
the effects of TV violence, kids and video games, teens and the online culture, tweens and magazines,
youth and civic engagement, the role of media literacy in the digital age, and the status of entertainment
education and health in the United States. Also developed and wrote the Foundation's case study
report, New Media and the Future of Public Service Advertising.


National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign,
The White House Office on National Drug Control Policy

Rapporteur for a closed "chat" on The Evolution of Digital Communications and Impacts on Teen Beliefs, Attitudes, and Behaviors.


The Rogers Group

Facilitated training session about the new media youth culture for professionals
in strategic communications, public relations, and public affairs.


Teen Line at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

Media Education Consultant about teen and social media issues. Wrote the Cyber Harm brochure for Teen Line, a teen crisis hotline, to use for educational outreach to teens, health professionals, and youth advocates.


The V-Chip Education Project

Developed and wrote A Parent's Guide to the TV Ratings and V-Chip to help parents understand
how the media ratings system can help screen age-appropriate programming for their children.
